The Application Process
The process of applying to become a seminarian for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston typically involves the following steps:
1) Fill out an application, which will include all the basic information about your background, including a spiritual biography of how you have grown in your Christian faith.
2) Provide names of people who will give references on your behalf.
3) Forward to the Vocations Office your academic transcripts from any colleges or universities that you have previously attended.
4) Drive to Wheeling and complete a physical examination at Wheeling Hospital, a psychological examination with a local psychologist and submit your social security number so that our diocesan Human Resources staff can run the necessary background checks.
5) Interview with the Formation Committee of the Diocese and interview with the Bishop of the Diocese.
6) Once a man is accepted into the seminarian formation program for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, then the Bishop decides which seminary the man will attend for studies.
